Direct International Investment in Turkey Increases by a Third in 2015
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Turkey increased 32 percent in 2015, amounting to $16.6 billion, according to an announcement released by the Prime Ministry Investment Support and Promotion Agency (ISPAT) on Thursday. With the monthly average of FDI exceeding USD 1 billion during the course of the last year, the country has attained the highest annual FDI figure since the global financial crisis.
Turkish Parliamentary Commission Adjusts Sunday Schedule for Christian MP
The Turkish Parliament’s Planning and Budget Commission adjusted its meeting hours so that Armenian MP Garo Paylan, from the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), can attend Sunday church services.
Upon the request of Garo Paylan, the head of the parliament’s Planning and Budget Commission Süreyya Bilgiç agreed to the new arrangement. The arrangement will enable Paylan to go to church and perform his religious duties between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the capital city, Ankara. Paylan told the Hurriyet Daily that:
” This was a first for the Turkish parliament but this is the thing that should be. The commission will either start their meeting a little later or give a break during this time and I will be able to go to church and perform my religious duties. ”
PM Davutoğlu visited Cemevi
On Saturday, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu visited the Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli Anatolian Cultural Foundation and cemevi during his visit to an eastern Turkey’s Erzincan province. Davutoğlu also watched a sema ritual dance and thanked those who invited him to their cemevi. Davutoğlu said that:
” Whether they are Sunni or Alevi, if a person rejects to believe in God, he goes off the rails. Whoever rejects the path of Muhammad or Ali, he loses his path. Those you want to break us apart by identifying us Sunni or Alevi should know this and stop attempting to create any disagreements among us. ”
